Ethics & Diversity Discussion

03/13/19 11:30am to 1:30pm
1 Hanover Square
New York,NY 10004

March is CPCU’s Ethics Month! This year we’ll be tackling the intersection of ethics and diversity. Ethics are essential in the insurance industry as we are providing a promise to stand with our customers in the face of catastrophe. Underwriting rules should accept anyone that meets the underwriting standards regardless of who they are or from where they come. This necessity for inclusion is equally true for the people we hire, but the reality does not always reflect this.

Should our industry be doing more to stress diversity and inclusion? Does how we treat our staff reflect how we treat our customers? Should we put guidelines in place to stop ourselves from reinforcing stereotypes – whether intended or not?

Please join us to discuss these and similar questions at The India House at 1 Hanover Square for a lunch on Wednesday March 13th, starting at 11:30am. We’ll review and discuss a number of topical case studies that outline some of the daily ethical dilemmas we encounter. Many times, there is no “right” answer, but hearing how your industry associates address a problem may clarify your approach in the real life situations you will inevitably face.

The discussion will be facilitated by 2019 New York CPCU Chapter President, Martin Ridgers, along with our Diversity Chair, Tanisha Taylor. We’ll be counting on everyone in attendance to contribute to the conversation, making for a rousing and interesting lunch discussion.
